Human Comedy 《人間喜劇》

THE HUMAN COMEDY 《人間喜劇》

Departing stylistically from the long-take, deep-focus norm of Taiwanese New Cinema, The Human Comedy brings the viewer much closer to the characters. A portrait of a postmodern Taiwan at the beginning of this millennium, the film weaves four different story lines loosely based on anecdotes from The Book of 24 Filial Pieties, a classic compilation of Confucian moral fables. Four stories are presented in seven interrelated episodes, affording viewers glimpses into the disintegrating social bonds of a traditional society in transition.
