Iconic German director Monika Treut here turns her lens on Taiwan, examining the lives of three women of differing generations against the backdrop of the country’s socio-political changes and the campaign for the 2004 presidential election. The film offers sensitive and affecting portraits of these strong and courageous women – the famous Taiwanese opera singer Hsieh Yue-hsia, the award-winning novelist Li Ang, and the up-and-coming young filmmaker Chen Ying-rong. Through their eyes and stories, the viewer witnesses the changes and conflict in Taiwanese society, as well as the raucous campaigning typical of Taiwan’s elections.
